Some Interesting Images- Building Envelope and Systems

Air leakage at ceiling of eastern wall of an oceanfront home.  The image was taken in the 3rd level master bedroom and the wind was blowing the cold air right into the bays of the roof rafters.

This is a thermograph of an EIFS wall.  This is the front right corner of this house and it was found to be in good shape. The pinker areas on the front of the house (left side of picture) are of latent heat being retained by the wall and are not of concern.

This is a view from the interior of air leakeage around newly installed windows.  This shot was taken in the wintertime and the air infiltration appears as blue.  Notice the cold areas at the frames and under the window on the left side of the picture..the windows whistled and were costing the homeowner money in power bills.  Most of the windows in the house were similar and these pictures were used to show that the windows were improperly installed.

This is a view of leaky ductwork for an air conditioning system.  The image was taken on a hot day and was taken from a carport under the house. The ducting is leaking cold air which is represented by the dark lines.  The homeowner had always wondered why his house was never comfortable and his electric bills were high.
